Candleabras

The exquisite art of a well-placed candelabrum is not dead. Even with the use of electric lights, a lit candle provides a soft glow that is difficult to replicate in any other fashion. Some lamps may even be shaped like a candle but it is not the same thing as the flattering light produced by a flame. Candles and candelabras are romantic and some of them smell really good. They have many uses for the purposes of decoration and can be used for fine dining, garden parties, festive occasions or when the power goes out. There are so many types of candles from tea lights to pillar candles, floating candles, tapered candles and more. For every candle there are just as many exciting kinds of candelabra waiting to hold them up.

Votives & Tea Lights

Votives and tea lights are those little round candles about six centimetres in diameter that come in a small tin basin. Truth be told votive candles will not burn for a very long time but in most cases they are not being used as the main source of light. The twinkling nature of a lit votive candle is perfect for situations that call for a speck of brightness. They are often employed in multiples to create a feeling of wonder and enchantment. Votive candle holders are usually small and made of glass or metal. Votives come in many designs such as wistful, romantic, chic, modern, holiday themes and more.

Hurricane Lamps

Hurricane lamps are so called because they shield the flame of a candle from being blown out by the wind with their very tall sides. The idea is that even in a hurricane a candle burning in a lamp such as this will not go out. Obviously this makes them perfect for outdoor use but many designers will employ them indoors as well. This is because their translucent walls are so elegant and beautiful, especially when holding a lit pillar candle. If the hurricane lamp is water tight these treasures can also be used with floating candles. Fill the lamp with water and foliage then gently place a floating candle and light it.

Candleholders

This section is devoted to the old fashioned notion of candelabras as elaborate multi-tiered affairs. This starts with a prototypical candle stick that stands straight up and down with typical western architecture. Then there are the more complicated candleholders which can bear several different tapered candles from their branches. Candleholders and candelabras such as these have traditionally been constructed from metal as in European high society. Modern technology allows us to have such candelabras in materials like glass, wood or in some cases plastic.

Garden Lanterns

Garden lanterns are wonderful for lining up along narrow walkways to illuminate the footing of all who pass. Although perhaps not practical for everyday use because of the risk it may start a fire, garden lanterns are a whimsical addition to any outdoor function. Failing that a candle holder shaped like a lantern is still an amazing addition to any book shelf or accent table. The practicality of a lantern is that they can be carried without dripping hot wax everywhere. This is not as important as it used to be but it still applies in certain situations where a candle provides the only light by which to see.

Wall Candleholders

Wall candle holders are decorative metal wall plaques that are designed to hold candles. This is a very attractive way to make use of empty space on a wall that one does not see very often. For some reason an elaborate wall candleholder filled with glimmering tea lights is elegant and impressive. The twists and turns of the metal framework can be modelled after the spirals of a vine or take a modern and geometric approach. The only thing is one must be careful about where they suspend hanging candelabras, if they intend to light them, due to the combustible nature of open flames
